Folk Dancing: Mehkereki Tapsos (trio)

2004, Mar. 27 - Provo, UT. Folk dance from the village of Mehkerek, Bekes County, in south-east Hungary. Mehkerek has a population of 2500, comprised mainly of ethnic Romanians.

Nice choreography: a good range of sound texture in the slapping, nice variation in stage position and facing, solos vs group work. Having learned this dance, I can attest that it's very difficult to get the clapping, slapping and heel-clicks to be loud and what the Hungarians term "pontos", meaning highly regular accurate as far as timing. These guys manage very nicely, and maintain their alignment and posture while doing so.
